The Cooperative Research Centre for Oral Health Science adheres to the National Principals of Intellectual Property Management for Publicly Funded Research.
The Centre’s Commercialisation Plan describes the approved policies and procedures relating to ownership, protection and exploitation of intellectual property (IP), including managing existing IP, identifying and protecting new IP before publication, and acknowledging inventors and authorship.
Any conflict of interest between CRC-OHS participants is managed under clear agreements and policies within the Centre and within the employment context of each participant.
The Commercialisation Plan defines agreed research fields within which commercial participants have rights to IP. Once a commercial participant has expressed an interest in IP, licensing and royalty arrangements are negotiated. If the commercial participant does not express interest in adopting the IP, it is available to be considered for utilisation more widely.
Ownership of CRC-OHS IP - Centre IP – is retained by Oral Health Australia Pty Ltd, which is a special purpose proprietary company formed to hold Centre IP on trust for the participants and to enter into contracts with third parties to commercialise Centre IP.
Students carrying out research in the CRC-OHS are required to enter into intellectual property agreements with the university in which they are enrolled.
